Tokyo Disneyland Earthquake

Heartfelt thoughts go out to those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11, 2011. Seeing the videos online--yet being here in the US far removed from the devastation--it's difficult to imagine the depth of just what the Japanese people are going through.

The Walt Disney Company has made a $2.5 million donation to the Red Cross to support with emergency efforts there. Disney has also set up a charitable giving program for all of its employees around the world. The company is matching employee contributions up to $1 million US dollars.

Within Tokyo Disneyland itself, the earthquake caused some parking lot liquefaction and cracked pavement around the resort, but damage overall appears not too substantial. Many guests were stranded at the park on the first night as the surrounding city infrastructure was and still is in bad shape. The resort will remain closed until a decision can be made about operations.

  1. It's shocking to see all of the photos of the people camped out in the park overnight. I can't even imagine what that would be like....not to mention the obviously bigger problems for the people that live/lived further to the north. You said it perfectly in your first sentence....my "heartfelt thoughts" go out to the people of Japan.
